The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Yeah … good question! One of the biggest things has been how to explain what we do. It’s not off the peg. It’s not better than other forms of therapy – whether they are emotional or physical – it’s just really different! Actually, it’s a great addition to your tool box of strategies for wellness. Writing for parents is one of my ways to solve this challenge because I know how hard it is to find advice that really helps. Most of us don’t have access to Elders who can guide us whilst not judging or overriding us.
Another challenge has been working as partners. Menia and I are very compatible but we do have different skills and experiences. So respectful and loving communication between the two of us is vital. We give this every ounce of dedication we’ve got! We really have to take care of each other and I think our clients can tell that they’ve entered a space of incredible warmth immediately when they start a session with us.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
Only pros! I just love doing this. It’s our creation, like a child, and has blended into who we are. The hard part can be standing back and getting perspective, to see how things could sometimes flow better. That’s what mentors are for!
And again and again, I see clients shed old burdens and discover new, freer ways of relating to themselves, their children, partners and wider community. I feel I’m making a difference.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
Life doesn’t stand still, ever, does it? Our business name might raise an eyebrow. How can anyone be ‘proofed’ against the vagaries of life? My hope is that those who are determined to heal, who take heart and try to become more fully alive, will find us as their companions and helpers. The fear of whatever may come can just fall away. You’ll discover you can handle it.
