The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
First and foremost, the copycats. Since The Nude Alchemist‘s inception, an increasing number of micro-businesses have popped up, with similar (and identical!) ideas and products. While it is frustrating, it does increase my drive to further the business and continue developing original products, hoping this will keep us ahead of the game.
Supply issues have been tremendous over the last 18 months due to the pandemic, which I am sure has affected most businesses. We have had to place advance orders on many things to avoid significant disruption to our production.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
You never truly leave work at work. Your mind is always ticking over with ideas and thoughts. There is always risk involved with running your own business, which can weigh quite heavily on your shoulders at times, and you are responsible for making enough sales to cover payroll every week! The pros would be having the flexibility to enjoy the children as they grow, be financially independent, and not answer to anyone but ourselves!
Hopes and dreams: What next?
My passion lies in product development, so watch this space. Our next business hurdle is to upgrade our premises in which we operate from, ideally with a small retail storefront. I hope to expand properly overseas one day.
