Healing & Nurturing for Mind, Body & Spirit

Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?

Good question! I’m lucky in that regard because I work from home. I’m a single parent and my children are now older (my son is 19 and my daughter is 13), so I don’t have the demands on my time that a mother with younger children has. But, as a single parent, it can still be a balancing act at times – I’m it! As many of my clients are international, I have to be available at flexible times, but also make sure that doesn’t encroach on family time. It’s easy to be consumed by my business 24/7 – but I’m very aware of keeping all areas of my life in harmony, even if that means blocking off a work day in my calendar every now and then! I know that if all areas of my life aren’t in balance, I can’t be the best person I need to be for my family and my clients.

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

Initially, the hardest part was getting all my systems in place – having a reliable and practical booking system, invoicing, revamping my website, getting my social media platforms established, etc. Now it’s time management. I love helping my clients and my little business has grown rapidly, but it’s just me to not only see my clients (either in person or online), as well as do the paperwork, answer emails, try to squeeze people in when there are no available appointments left and they need to see me urgently – and still be a mother and have self care practices! Some days are hectic but I’m doing what I love, and even though it’s busy, I get immense pleasure out of seeing people (and often babies and children) go from being very unwell to happy, smiling, healthy beings. That in itself is a reward to me.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

The pros far outweigh the cons! The pro for me is helping people. I think I was a born nurturer and it’s enormously satisfying to see people become well not just physically, but mentally/emotionally. Working from home is also a pro – I can set my own schedule and hours. I have flexibility to attend my daughter’s school events and pick her up from school some days. I don’t have to ask the boss for a day off! I like the freedom being self employed gives. I feel so blessed to be doing what I love. The only con is that I’m it! Sometimes I think it would be great to have someone answer my emails or do the invoicing – the nuts and bolts aspect of having a business. I don’t get as much time to attend all the webinars or read all the Homeopathy books I’d like to. Homeopathy is evolving all the time with new remedies being developed. I like to keep current with the latest research. Sometimes that has to take a backseat to the needs of my clients, but I’m OK with that.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

There are endless possibilities! I’m working on eBooks, developing some kits for people to use in the home, education services for mothers to use Homeopathy at home, and of course expanding my international client base. I’m passionate about health and wellness and empowering others to heal themselves and their families. That’s an ongoing goal!
