Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
Since having my first baby and now well into my third trimester with my second pregnancy, I must admit balancing work, running a small business, being a mother and a wife is challenging.
So I try to be totally present in each moment. When I am with my family, they are my focus. When our baby goes down for bed, my husband and I have ‘us time’, ensuring we remain connected to each other.
Then, I also make time each day for Making Mama, because this little business is my passion, my way of positively impacting and changing women’s lives.
The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
I think when you pour so much of your soul and your love into something, it’s hard to then release it out into the world, hoping that your message will resonate with the people out there too.
I have learned and still continue to learn the power of vulnerability and putting what you have out there.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
I absolutely love running my own business, something that I built from scratch and something that I’m so incredibly passionate and proud of.
Seeing the impact my products and business make on women’s lives is amazing.
Challenges are financial; when you’re a sole owner, you’re funding everything yourself. You really have to back yourself. Social media is also challenging but fun!
Hopes and dreams: What next?
I would love to expand our offerings at Making Mama over the next few years and also link up with other Australian small businesses to continue to change the culture around birth and looking after the mother during this special time.
