It Takes a Village: Nurturing Families, Building Community

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

There have been quite a few challenges along the way.

Raising three children in four years while completing a degree and building a business has been a journey in itself. On top of that, we went through a particularly difficult season when my husband was out of work for seven months while transitioning into a role that better suited our family life.

During that time, everything related to Villagehood had to pause while we focused on meeting basic needs. It was a tough period, and I came close to giving up on the idea altogether.

But moments of unexpected encouragement reminded me why this matters – that families genuinely need this kind of support. That kept me going.

Building an app has also been far more complex than I ever imagined. There’s so much happening behind the scenes that people don’t see. Even now, as we prepare for launch, there’s a long list of final steps. It can feel overwhelming, but I’ve learned to focus on one step at a time.

For better or worse: As you prepare to launch your business, what excites you most and what challenges do you anticipate?

What excites me most is seeing this idea come to life – something that started as a personal need becoming a real, functional platform that can support families.

More than anything, I’m excited to see families build their own villages feeling supported practically, financially and socially.

I’m naturally optimistic, so I tend not to dwell too much on future challenges. But if the journey so far is anything to go by, I know it will continue to be complex, stretching, and at times unpredictable.

Still, it’s worth it because if we can change the way families are supported, we can change everything.

Hopes and dreams: What’s next?

My hope is to help rebuild the village for families.

But the bigger dream is to help rebuild families themselves so families aren’t just surviving, but truly thriving. Where neighbours connect again, where parents support one another, and where children grow up surrounded by community.
