The Passion. What inspired you to set up your business?
After I had such great results with the products on my own family, I just had to share these doTERRA oils with other families having similar problems. I also was looking for an opportunity to give me more time freedom, so I didn’t always miss out on the important events in my kids’ lives like assembly and sports days. I love showing mums how simple and cost effective these oils are, and how quickly they help you in times of need. With just some simple education along the way, they are easy for anyone to use, even a novice who hasn’t tried oils before. I wanted to help mums realise that these essential oils are way better options that you can have at your fingertips, so you feel empowered to have a solution for any problem that arises in the home.
The launch: How did you start out in the beginning?
In the beginning, I just shared with my family and friends. I then created a Facebook page and an Instagram page so that I could post about our tips and ideas more to the public. I now also have a webpage for my accessories and that is linked to both accounts.
The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?
My biggest breakthrough with my business would be when I focused more on my target market/niche and then the message wasn’t so watered down. Being a mum myself, I find that is who I relate to best and who follows my page the most. Mums love the way we use the products with the kids and in DIY items and crafts, so that’s been my breakthrough – to stop trying to please everyone and please myself. Then the audience that likes what you sell/talk about will come naturally.
Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
I find my essential oil business is quite easy to fit in around the family as it is usually stuff we are doing day to day anyway: making stuff we use like soap, handwash, cooking, crafts and just sharing that with others on the page, and making orders as they are requested via the website. I usually do the intro courses online and then they are done when the kids are asleep, or I do things when my kids are at school. My casual job as a teacher is a bit harder to balance as it involves longer days and more mental load, but we use our oily doTERRA products to help with that. My husband is amazing and works amazingly hard for our family too.
