The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
One of the biggest challenges is having women understand how important preparing to breastfeed is. Our breastfeeding education is very different to what is taught in the hospital system.
Many women do not worry about breastfeeding until their babies are in their arms and experiencing painful complications. By then they are in the thick of it, sleep deprived and full of well-meaning yet conflicting and confusing advice.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
It does take a lot of time to build up your business, as so much goes on in the background. However, the more women who complete the Beautiful Breastfeeding program with Birth to Breast, the more women will start to tell their positive breastfeeding stories because they prepared. Every woman who completes my program is a win in my eyes, as I know that’s one more woman who can be in control of their birth and breastfeeding.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
I am currently completing my fine tuning accreditation, which will allow me to offer that additional 1:1 support to any breastfeeding mother in those early days and weeks of breastfeeding who needs help with fine tuning to reduce nipple pain.
