The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Staying motivated has definitely been one of my biggest challenges in the beginning, especially during difficult times. This is something I definitely feel I have overcome, but equally understand that it is something that can be ever changing as I navigate this journey. So, ensuring I am not hard on myself and taking well earned breaks is necessary.
Maintaining a good work-life balance is another challenge I definitely believe I have overcome. Asking for help when needed, ensuring I have great organisation skills, as well as pre-planning weeks/months in advance to make things easier – this was definitely a turning point for me.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your business?
The pros most certainly outweigh the cons. However, running a business is not easy at all. There have been countless sleepless nights and mistakes made along the way. Getting my business out there has not been easy, and trying to keep up with all social media accounts to try and grow online is very time consuming. Not to mention all the admin side of things – there are times I wish I had a PA.
However, there are many, many pros to running my small business. Starting with just how cute and tiny baby clothing is! Now that my son is 10, I forget at times how small he once was.
I absolutely love communicating with manufacturers, working with other brands, showcasing my products and meeting parents as well as expectant parents/grandparents/aunts/uncles. The excitement I see when new grandparents come to buy for their first grandchild – it brings me so much joy supporting them in choosing the perfect outfit.
My small business brings me so much happiness and fulfilment, especially when I have recurring customers who have loved their purchases and have come back to purchase again.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
My next hope is to expand my small business to offer clothing from 0-5 years. The bigger, ultimate dream one day is for Kaylan & Roo to have a physical shop on the high street. Watch this space!
