Restore Inner Gut Health and Thrive in Motherhood

Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?

Being still an early stage business, I currently run my business around part-time employment. Sometimes I find it hard to juggle the two, along with also being a mother, doing all the household cooking, cleaning, and making time for family, but I am so grateful that I can run my own business, while only having to work part-time hours. I have found the best way to really balance the two has been to actually set a schedule. Scheduling in time for work and scheduling in time for quality time with family is what really works for me.

Without a schedule or designating times for work and play, it’s so easy to be less productive when you are working, in which case you find yourself eating into your family time just so you can finish a project or a business task. When family time is scheduled in, it’s important to be fully present at this time. This means no phones, no devices, no emails that can be distracting. This is our time to spend quality time together.

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

I would say putting myself out there more, showing up and not giving up despite all the hard work that you need to put into growing a business in the initial stages. While I could say it’s all too hard, there is too much work to get to where I want to go, what drives me is my love for health, learning and wanting to make an impact on the world.

We all dream of a certain way we want our business to be, but it’s important to realise that it doesn’t happen overnight. There will be failures along the way and it will take persistence and hard work, but with the right attitude and with time, you can certainly build a successful business.

I have found listening to motivational podcasts and inspirational speakers has really helped me achieve the mindset to overcome these challenges. Mindset can either make or break you.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

Running a business doesn’t end – there is always something to do, whether it’s working in the business or on the business. Sometimes I find it hard to juggle business and my employment job, along with also being a mother, doing all the household cooking and cleaning, but I am so grateful that I can run my own business, while only having to work part-time hours.

The perks of running my own business are that I can pick my own hours and the flexibility is great, with the ability to be able to work it around family life. I think doing things the way you want to do it, rather than having someone tell you how to do it and have set rules that you need to abide by really outweighs working for someone else.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

I have so much planned for Nutritious Vitality in the next couple of years and the near future. My first big goal is to network more and grow my business enough that I can leave my employment job, meaning there is more flexibility.

My long-term vision is to run mothers’ get away health retreats. I believe there is a real call for this, with so many of us mums pushing aside time for our own self care in the daily grind of motherhood. This then leads to burnout and poor health. While our children’s health is so important, we can not forget about our own health. Having a mothers’ health retreat would give mothers a chance to take a few days out for themselves, children free, to really focus on themselves and their own health.

I envision this retreat to educate mothers on the importance of good nutrition, gut health and how they can prioritise incorporating these things into their day-to-day lives, so they can feel less fatigued, reduce burnout and have overall more vibrant health. This retreat would also be a place where mothers could pamper themselves with massages and facials, get personalised nutritional advice, have access to a bunch of meditation, yoga and exercise classes, all while feeling connected and sharing stories with a community of like-minded mums.
