Sentimental Keepsakes to Wear with Pride

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

I guess the biggest challenge with working during school hours and being the stay-at-home parent is that if any of the kids are sick, have appointments, and are home during the school holidays, it can be difficult to keep to a schedule. I’ve learnt that I have to be quite flexible in my work hours and really prioritise what needs doing with limited hours to work. It’s always changing and that’s life, but the best thing about crafting for other mamas is that we are all in the same boat and understand the daily struggles of work and family life.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

Being there for my babies was always my biggest priority, and is definitely the biggest perk about being your own boss – to have that time with the kids while they’re young. It means that life is busy and it can be hard to switch off, so I guess the con is that the business is always on your mind and you’re forever planning out the next days and weeks in your head each evening. But being able to craft for so many lovely customers and hear their stories is an absolute honour and makes everything worthwhile. It really fills my cup and makes me so grateful to be able to provide tangible keepsakes for those experiencing loss, through to those who are celebrating new life. It is all a pretty special journey to be a part of and to be trusted with elements so precious to each customer.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

I am always working on new designs and collections so that we have something for everyone to love and am excited to do more of this to produce a fantastic keepsake range, unique to The Spilt Milk Co.

One day I would love to have my own store where people can see my work in real life and create a workplace with hours that suit other mamas wanting to get back into employment after having their children. But for now, continuing to craft with love in my own time is a pretty great place to be.
