The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
There have been so many challenges so far and I’m sure more to come! Our website was a huge challenge for us as we built it ourselves. It has been a big achievement as well though, as we can see our hard work in a physical form, which is pretty cool. That and getting our name out there. We didn’t realise how important (and time consuming) social media would be for us! There is still so much to learn.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
Our passion is helping mums out there know that whatever leap stage they find themselves in, that there’s light at the end of the tunnel. Both of us experienced leaps differently, one more intense than the other. But it was so reassuring knowing that we did the journey together, so the biggest pro in doing this is finding the supportive, amazing mum community that exists out there: mums running their own small business; mums supporting mums in every way, and we’re so happy to be part of that! The biggest con is probably having to do everything ourselves and having to do it all manually, which is time consuming and takes a lot of energy after working our day jobs and with our toddlers. And because we’ve just started, we’ve had to make do without a few things, which means we’ve had to be more creative to still give our customers 100% satisfaction.
Hopes and dreams: What’s next?
Realistically, we’ve given ourselves goals both short term and long term.
Short term is to be part of a magazine (um hello!? That just happened through this platform!!), be on a podcast (and we’ve already featured on two), along with getting to a point in our sales where we are consistant and selling a certain amount a month. Long term, we want to venture globally and start off with NZ and USA where we’re both from. We also want to be able to quit our part-time jobs and live off this business. So here’s to the future of My Loxxi – woo hoo!
Check out the My Loxxi website to find out more, and join their supportive online communities on Facebook and Instagram.
