Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?

I have a very busy schedule balancing my family, the business and working as both a paramedic and a nurse. My husband is my rock and we always have days where we focus on our family time, whether that be an outing, a movie day or just a walk to the local park.

I try to take ‘holidays’ from working on the business as well, especially when the boys are on school holidays. I think it is really good for your mental health to step away intermittently.

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

Last year, I completed my Masters in Nursing Science and we also welcomed our third son shortly after the Level 4 Covid-19 lockdown, so the business became less of a priority for me. I had to focus on writing a thesis, caring for a newborn and sleeping when I got the chance! Earlier this year, I decided I would give the business some more attention.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

There is lots to learn running your own business.

Pros: I have learnt so much about social media, websites, importing and product design

Cons: I have lost so much time learning about the above!

Hopes and dreams: What next?

I think everyone’s hopes are to have their business become a steady source of income. Despite that, I don’t think I will never give up my ‘real job’ as that is my true passion.

I am always on the lookout for new products that are a must-have for parents. I have work in the pipeline for a clothing label with pieces for children and also breastfeeding mums.
