The Little Outlet makes shopping for baby and toddler clothes and accessories really easy. The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?
We saw a gap in the market and thought to ourselves, we can fill that! So many stores had cute baby wear, but it was all relatively the same with not much to choose from and quality seemed to be an offset for affordability. So, we decided that we ultimately wanted to offer Kiwi parents the BIGGEST range of baby and toddler clothing made from quality materials at an affordable price.
The launch: How did you start out in the beginning?
We actually started from home when we were both working full-time jobs and putting in every bit of spare time we had into developing the business. We started putting ideas together to start our own business that would offer Kiwi parents a large range of good quality products at fair prices, while keeping the size of our carbon footprint in mind. To offer products at a more affordable price meant saving money in the manufacturing process, but we didn’t want to sacrifice quality, which meant the only other way we could lower costs was by re-inventing the outdated supply chain processes and working closely with manufacturers to supply our customers directly from their warehouses, getting rid of large overhead costs and saving on middle-man fees, double shipping costs and at the same time keeping our carbon footprint to a minimum. Slowly but surely, the ball started rolling and on 10th of September 2019 we launched The Little Outlet.
The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?
The launch and marketing of our online store “The Little Outlet” was our biggest breakthrough. That first sale meant parents wanted what we had to offer, and then we had our first repeat customer. From that point on, we knew we had something great to offer and to see it come together after all the hard work we put in was a proud moment for us.
Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
We share the load! We have a routine like any other business where we commit time to the daily running, fulfilling orders, sourcing new products, communicating with suppliers and shipping companies, answering emails and social media messages, all while doing our best to keep our customers satisfied and happy ensuring all issues are resolved. Come 4pm its tools down and family life resumes – with the occasional email sent here and there.
