The NZ Super Nanny: creating harmony in your home

Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?

I am fortunate that at the moment I do not have my own household to run which gives me the freedom to be on the road, presenting seminars and workshops, spending time with families and coaching parents through the most difficult parts of their day.

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

As the demand grew, the logistics and cost of travelling had me reflecting on the management and best use of my resources. My time was divided between the north and south islands of New Zealand and international clients too. Traffic congestion and airline delays had me thinking, The New Zealand Super Nanny really does need her own cape! Or better yet a jet pack!

I felt all this ‘travel time’ would be more valuable spent face to face over an online conference call. Further to that, I had mastered the art of being able to quickly determine the natures of children through the descriptions provided by parents, and that observing the children and being present in the home although preferred, wasn’t entirely necessary.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

The pros are easy. I’m doing what I love doing, how I think it should be done. I’m busy, but flexible. I am my own boss and the love for my work keeps me motivated. I am also excited to have the opportunity to train other nannies to support children and families in this way too.

Planning is essential and must be precise in order to have the business run smoothly. Then there is the bookwork, advertising, marketing and networking that needs regular attention. It all must be monitored to make sure nothing falls through the cracks.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

I have 6 training modules for nannies and caregivers to complete based on the philosophy of the Four Natures of Children. The purpose of these will be for them to upskill themselves and branch out into the business of Behaviour Consulting and Parent Coaching.

My hope is that by the end of 2020, Jessie Buttons will be renowned for creating Harmony In Homes of NZ and Beyond.
