The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Challenges I have overcome have been personal. One of our boys has had some serious medical conditions and has had 2 major surgeries since I launched, and one being pioneering. At times, the business has to be paused, but it has allowed me the flexibility and freedom to be there when I need to be for the children. This was one of the biggest motivating factors when going for it after the idea came to me. After teaching for 15 years, working for myself allowed me to be there when I wanted to be and when I needed to be.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
The pro of running your own business is that you are the one in control of where you take it. You are the one who makes the decisions, works on your own terms and creates time to have a good work-life balance. On the other hand, it is being the one to make all the decisions that can be isolating, as well as keeping on top of the demands of running a business. You have to be able to keep up with trends on social media, and understand the algorithm of Instagram and TikTok to be able to stay relevant and seen. There is so much to learn every day, but to see the growth in your own creation is just incredible.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
I have added several new calendars to the website including a 12-day edition which launched in the new year – a calendar filled with essentials for mummy-to-be to add to her hospital bag. I have also just partnered with an ABTA protected company to be able to offer a Babymoon service. As my background and passion is travel and tourism, I knew I wanted to be able to offer this alongside the calendars. I now can plan and book babymoons and family holidays as another service. From spa days to staycations, all-inclusive to hot tub breaks, I have included a Babymoon Calendar as well as Hampers, which come free with every trip booked, subject to terms and conditions.
