Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
This balance has been challenging for both Nate and me since our daughter was born almost two years ago. I try to look after my wellbeing, the wellbeing of our daughter and try my best to stay present, then naturally there becomes the time for the mahi. It all seems to flow better like this.
The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
The biggest challenge for me was handing over the production, as we grew I decided I could not keep up with the production of the blending and infusing the oils, so we handed it over to a small production company in the Hawke’s Bay that produces herbal medicines and natural skincare. It was more of an emotional challenge, I suppose. Other small problems come and go, but I always feel we have so much support and there always seems like a simple solution, if not, well life goes on.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
The pros are being able to be a full-time Mum (not going to lie I do sometimes crave more time alone), but ultimately this is wonderful, also being able to work in my own way with my own natural flow and energy and having more time as a family. I think one thing I sometimes feel I desire is more interaction with different people, most of the time I work alone. Other than that, I do not know if I have any cons. It is a blessing to be able to do what you love, in your own time.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
So many hopes and dreams. What would life be without dreams? We want to create maybe a few more multi-use products to add to the range of oils, but mostly we want the skincare to be a part of what tahi is, not all tahi is. Our big message is that we are one, we have a strong desire to support our community, to create change and to see people become harmonious with one another and with our beautiful environment. Watch this space!
