For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
I’ve always had my own business and have never been employed, so I don’t know any other lifestyle! Flexibility with time is definitely the number one benefit and has always been a priority to me. With my family photography I have even more flexibility – being able to reschedule a shoot because of bad weather is such a blessing (I never had this luxury with weddings)! The cons would be the uncertainty of not having a guaranteed income and having to roll with unforeseen events (like Covid and cyclones!).
Hopes and dreams: What next?
I’m hoping to do more raw motherhood sessions – beautiful postpartum moments, tender breastfeeding photos, and lots of beautiful skin-to-skin mama and baba photos that go well with my tag line – a mix of heart and art! I’ve been seeing a lot of this beautiful style of work from photographers abroad but the demand in New Zealand hasn’t quite caught on yet. I’m offering them anyway and keep promoting them!
