The Drive: What challenges have you overcome?
The work/life balance was a big challenge for me but even more so was that I was terrified of putting myself out there! I didn’t want to be in the spotlight or me writing magazine articles. I didn’t want to be the evangelist spouting on about how much I believe in something. I was content to be the strong, steady light in the corner of the room that assisted people without having to be all “public” about it. Well, that was something I had to get over!
I had to get active on social media, advertise my business opportunity and talk to others when they asked me, “so what’s this business?” I had to take a stand for what I believed in, where I was going, and knowing that I have a treasure in my hands with a lucrative online business opportunity centered around an award-winning (and life-changing, if I may say so myself) personal development product line.
Now, did this happen overnight? No, it did not. This has been a process for me with incremental personal and business rewards along the way. And I am so glad that I have and continue to overcome this particular personal challenge. Earlier this year I have even adventured to Thailand to compete some promotional filming for my business and though I felt challenged, I loved it too and have some great marketing assets now. With challenge comes reward!
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
Well, there’s no holiday pay! You get paid in entrepreneur time and your rewards are going to be in correlation with how much work you have put in. That can be a big adjustment for employees who are used to getting a weekly wage. Being a business owner may not be as regular as this, but when the income is flowing the financial remuneration can be far more rewarding!
It is incredibly satisfying to have autonomy over your business and the decisions that pertain to it. Not only that but the major reward of course is that you have autonomy over your own schedule. Especially working a portable business, you can literally work from anywhere there is internet and phone connection. The flexibility is a major draw card for many parents as they get to work their business for a solid couple of hours and then everything else can be done in the nooks and crannies of their day.
However, if you put your business down for a week or two while you’re on holiday or have something else on, your business loses momentum. That is the downside to having the buck stop with you; you get all the rewards, financial and otherwise but you are effectively your business, so if you drop the ball then that’s on you too.
The beautiful thing with my business, however is that because it is portable and part time you could literally work two hours a day while you’re away doing some epic holiday with the family, have the rest of the day enjoy as you wish, and your business doesn’t skip a beat. A recent trip to Europe with my husband had me working a little bit in the morning with my laptop in the mountains of Switzerland from our little tent while we were camping by a gorgeous mountain lake. Honestly, what could be a better office than that!
Hopes and dreams: What next?
The next step for me in my business is to continue to grow within myself, grow as a mentor to others and provide a quality service to my associates and continue to expand my marketing globally. Previously I have marketed my business in New Zealand, Australia, US and Canada and in the next six months I plan to expand this into the UK and Ireland. This is an exciting time in the business and there is amazing expansive energy that I have worked to build. So I’m very much looking forward to using this energy to reach a new level of productivity that will enable me to help even more parents out there create the life of their dreams for themselves personally and for their family.
I am looking forward to taking my son to explore more of this beautiful world and traveling with my son and husband with the freedom of a fully portable business.
