The Drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Balancing motherhood and business has definitely been my biggest challenge. I often find myself staying up until midnight getting work done because I’ve been so busy with my son during the day, which isn’t ideal because us mamas need all the sleep we can get! I’m still figuring out how to work smarter not harder, and allowing myself to outsource some things that aren’t 100% necessary for me to do.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
The number one pro for me is being able to stay home with my son and not miss any special moments in his life. I’ve always wanted that, ever since I was a little girl. A con that many people wouldn’t think would be a con, is the lack of deadlines and boundaries. This is great in a lot of ways, but can also be detrimental in that it’s so easy to think, “I’ll just do it tomorrow”, or, conversely, stay up way too late working.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
My favourite part of running Yummy Mummy is definitely designing the tees. I’ve always wanted to be a fashion designer and it was always a dream that I never thought would come to fruition, but now that it’s actually something that I’m doing, I have even more passion for it. I’m currently working on a collection of matching mum and bub tees, so stay tuned for that really soon. In future, I’d love to expand my designs into more maternity and nursing clothing, and have a show at the Telstra Perth Fashion Festival, or even Melbourne Fashion Week – that’s the dream!
