The Wytchs Haven: For All of Your Spiritual and Witchy Needs

The Wytchs Haven

At The Wytchs Haven, you will find information, online lessons, and a shop for all of your spiritual and witchy needs. They stock everything from crystals, herbs, resins, charcoal, tarot and oracle cards, chakra sprays and NZ Flower Essences (made to your own specific needs and also basic overall requirements). We spoke to business founder Kaz Auckram to learn more about her business.

The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?

It is my way of life. We live in a world full of chemicals and toxins and have forgotten the old ways, the natural and traditional ways. We have become so far removed from nature that we are fighting against it rather than working with it and trusting out own heart and gut instincts.

I decided that I had the ability and the knowledge to teach and help others that were interested, and this is what I have been doing. I have also been involved with the laying out of stillborn and cot death children (also lay out adults as well), and sit with them overnight to ensure that their spirits do not remain earth bound. Some of it may sound a bit kooky, but many parents, especially of the stillborn, cannot cope with sitting with their own child and do not like the idea of the child’s physical body being left in a funeral home, so we sit with the child in their own home

The Launch: How did you start out in the beginning?

On a wing and a prayer. Working a regular full-time job and buying bits of stock when I could. First opened a shop in Invercargill, which went well, but relationship issues put paid to it and I lost my way a bit. Second opening, and what we do on a regular basis, is markets, fairs, etc.

The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?

Meeting my husband and finally having someone who believed in what I was doing (other than my two children).

Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?

My husband is self-employed and I work at the moment full time during the week, so in order for The Wytchs Haven to grow, he comes with me to the shows and markets, and we work together.
