Nurturing Mothers, Partners & Newborns Through Life’s Biggest Transition

The Natural Midwife

Bringing new life into the world is one of the most transformative and vulnerable experiences a woman and her family can go through. For Maggie Quinn, founder of The Natural Midwife and Belfire Apothecary, it’s also her greatest passion. With a deep love for nature and a calling to support women through pregnancy, birth and beyond, Maggie is dedicated to creating calm, empowering and nurturing experiences for mothers and their families. Here she talks to The Natural Parent Magazine about the inspiration behind what she does, how she balances work and family time, the challenges she has overcome, and her hopes and dreams for the future.

The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?

I wanted to be able to help women and their partners through one of the most vulnerable times of their life. Making a difference in a moment can impact someone for the rest of their life. I was inspired to be that person to make a difference and have a positive impact for not only a mother, but her partner and newborn baby.

Belfire Apothecary was born from my love of nature and how much it provides for us. Medicine is important in health, but only if absolutely necessary. Going back to basics with what the earth provides for us is a good place to start for all.

The launch: How did you start out in the beginning?

I found from my work that women were ill-prepared for their labour, birth and becoming a parent. Health professionals focused so much on their pregnancy and what may or may not be wrong, instead of focusing on the afterward: how to support these women in becoming a parent.

The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?

I had been thinking about the idea of The Natural Midwife for quite some time, but setting up my website and Instagram made it become real. Finally now being endorsed, I am able to have more offerings available to women.
