The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
I think the big challenge for me is more of an internal one. I always think about my customers, who are mainly mums, and how they would trust someone who has created skincare products for pregnancy and babies that doesn’t have kids.
However, after working with kids for the majority of my life and having a background in science and skincare, I know I have a great background to draw from. I had to overcome this feeling and am slowly trying to put myself out there more on socials, etc., because I think my journey as a founder is an important one to share.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
Pros: The creativity for me is a big one I think. I never thought of myself as creative, but in running a business there are so many outlets for creativity (not just the artsy kind) that I’ve been able to experience and I have really loved it – from creating the formulas, to Canva templates, website design (never thought I’d be able to say I can code websites), honestly it’s never ending.
Cons: The amount of work it takes! When I worked full time (before Mamave) I would go home and forget completely about what happened at work and what I had to do tomorrow, so I kind of miss going home after work and not thinking about more work. It’s forever on your mind and you really don’t get to just “check out”. I’m hoping that with time, it gets easier to manage and “check out” to some extent, e.g. outsourcing some elements like socials or order packing, etc.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
I have my eye on a few big name stores that I would love to see Mamave products in, so definitely working my way towards that and getting more people to experience Mamave!
Visit the Mamave website to find out more and to check out their gorgeous products. You can also connect with them on Facebook and Instagram.
