The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
The most challenging thing was launching the brand before lockdown (October 2019). It was difficult to get traction in the following months when people weren’t in the mindset of buying fine jewellery. But business has greatly improved since the country has opened up.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
I’m lucky enough to have some lovely clients to make pieces for. As well as selling pieces on my website, I do a lot of one-off commissions and remodelling work often to mark special occasions in people’s lives. It’s a privilege to be trusted to do this type of work with inherited pieces that hold great significance for the client.
The time and effort it takes to establish a business is huge. It’s a slow process of building up clientele that can take years. I think many people (including myself) underestimate just how much of a commitment it is financially and timewise. Despite that, I think it’s worth it when you love what you do.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
I plan on launching a new collection next year. I’m also working on a range of one-off pieces that will be available online only.
