The Drive: What challenges have you overcome:
I guess first of all, the challenge was learning to be a good leader and to guide staff and myself in the right direction.
Losing my biggest contract was a huge challenge, as it was a big deal for me.
I’ve had to figure out how to grow, learn and prosper with the business and try not to take things seriously or to heart.
Dealing with unsatisfied clients can be tough – knowing that we are not wizards but we try our damn hardest and complete jobs to the best of our abilities.
Learning to show up and grow a successful business brand that people will trust has also been challenging.
For Better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
There are a number of pros and cons to running your own business.
Pros:
- The flexibility to work on my terms, to my timeframe and around my whanau.
- Creating opportunities and following a passion.
- Helping others out and growing community networks.
- Carrying out life-changing and eye opening work.
- Keeping an open mind to everything around you.
Cons:
- It’s a high-demand service.
- Not enough downtime as you wear many hats in your early stages of growing.
- Managing tax, ACC and GST payments.
- Keeping marketing and finances on track.
- Dealing with unexpected challenges.
Hopes and Dreams: What’s next?
Over the next two years, we hope to:
- Look into franchising our company.
- Get some coaching and guidance to move forwards.
- Possibly hire again so we can go on holiday and take a break.
- Look at better solutions and systems to help us improve our services.
- Work on creating and bringing my husband’s vision into practice.
