Benefits of Merino Wool for Breastfeeding Mums & Vasospasm Sufferers

How can merino wool help?

It is recommended that those who experience vasospasm of the nipple stay warm after breastfeeding and in between feeds. This means covering the nipples once baby finishes feeding so they don’t get exposed to cold air. Staying warm is essential and this is where the benefits of merino wool come in.

Mothers have had great success using woolen breast pads to help with this issue. Everyone knows that merino wool is warm – it is not just warm however, it is temperature regulating due to being an active natural fiber.

Merino wool is able to adjust to your natural body temperature, staying warm when it’s colder and keeping you cool when it is too hot. This is perfect in helping with this condition as there are no sudden temperature changes, which means blood vessels don’t go into shock and spasm.

Along with the fact merino wool is temperature regulating, it is also breathable and moisture-wicking, so you don’t have to worry about your bra getting clammy due to no air exposure. Any dampness is quickly wicked away from the skin and the pad will be dry again in no time.

Our breast pads are able to be used on their own or you can layer them with another reusable or disposable pad, with our merino pad against the skin.

Since we love merino wool so much, we have just launched our new product, felted merino wool nappy covers (OverNaps). They are designed to be worn over the top of either a reusable or disposable nappy as a extra layer of leakage protection. Give them a lanolise for waterproofing and you are good to go!

You can find both our reusable breast pads and Overnaps on our website with more info on the benefits of merino wool!
