Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
Great question! Sometimes wonderfully, sometimes not so much. It is a continual work in progress. I have found that being a small business owner, I can fall into the trap of feeling like I always need to be “on” to be successful. However, allocating myself set hours for work and home and trying to stick to them has been crucial. When I am home with my kids and my mum hat is on, I try my best to focus on that and enjoy it.
I’ve also realised that I can’t continue to give from an empty cup. I think self-sacrifice as a mother is such a common challenge that we all face, and for me to be the best version of me, I need to factor in a little ‘me time’ to recharge and reset. I love an early morning walk and my midweek yoga class is a must. I walk in full of stress and leave feeling zen. I love it.
The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Oh technology – it’s both a blessing and a challenge. The eye rolls from my teenagers when I’ve asked them for assistance keeps me entertained. They have certainly taught me a lot.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
I love the flexibility it offers, however with that comes an element of uncertainty which I am learning to embrace. There is no set wage to work the family budget to, but I am hoping to create a legacy for them in the long term. Imposter syndrome is a big one too – thoughts of “am I enough?” and “can I make this work?” are common, however when I look back and reflect on how far I have come, it gives a me little confidence to keep persevering.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
I’d love to expand my organic linen range! I just adore everything about it. And travel – I want to fit in a few more fun adventures with my kidlets before they spread their wings and head out for their own life journeys.
Head to the Pure Nest website to view their beautiful range of homewares and gifts, and follow their journey on Facebook and Instagram.
