Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
It’s really important to me, especially as a single mum, that the time I do get to spend with my kids is quality time. For them to know that they have my attention and that they are the focus. This means lists galore, late nights at my desk after they have gone to bed and way too much coffee, but it ultimately means I’m not missing those little (and big) moments that pass so quickly. When my kids are with their dad, I want to make sure that the time I do spend on The Wiggle Tree is productive. If I can outsource any home tasks to free up that time and allow me to concentrate on my strengths in this business, I definitely do.
The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
My biggest challenge was finding my own voice for the business. Being the second owner of The Wiggle Tree, I felt I had to give myself permission to make changes that were outside of the lane I had originally bought into. Once I realised how impractical and ultimately sabotaging this could be, I knew I had to believe and trust in myself to make the decisions on how I wanted to manage my business and which direction I wanted to take it in.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
I guess this could be a pro and a con. Every moment of my spare time is put into developing The Wiggle Tree. And being a solo owner of a small business means even when I don’t have the time, my mind never stops thinking about what has to be done and what’s the overall plan for The Wiggle Tree going forward.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
There is always something going on behind the scenes at The Wiggle Tree. I have just released the New Mama and Me Bamboo Bath Mittens and will soon be offering a selection of baby bundle gift packs that can be sent directly to the recipient. It’s really important that The Wiggle Tree continues to tick that box for versatile products that are also made to last.
