Everybird launched with two blends, the bold and chocolatey Everyday Blend, and Half-Caf, which (as the name suggests) has all the flavour but only half the caffeine. It’s made with 50% full strength Everyday Blend, and 50% chemical-free Swiss Water® decaf (decaffeinated in Canada using only time, temperature and water).
With only half the amount of caffeine, Half-Caf opens up a whole lot of opportunities for coffee drinkers. Those who are sensitive to caffeine can get a little boost without the jitters. Afternoon slumpers can have a cup to carry them through without keeping them up all night. And those who want coffee all day, every day (here’s looking at all the parents in the crowd) can now do so without feeling so wired.
While popular overseas, particularly in the United States, Half-Caf is a reasonably new concept in New Zealand. “When we were developing the product, we started stress-testing the idea with various stakeholders. The more people we spoke to, the more we learned that people were making their own half-caf blends at home. This cemented the idea that there was a need for something in-between decaf and a fully-caffeinated coffee – something that delivers all the flavour, without the jitters,” said Taylor.
Everybird may be just a fledgling but the team has high hopes for the future. “We know that people are questioning where their groceries come from more than ever before. We hope that people will choose Everybird, not just because it’s delicious but because our supply chain really is totally transparent from crop to cup,” said Taylor.
