Feeding Friend: Support & Comfort for your Breastfeeding Journey

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

I really struggled with social media and still do. I had a failed kickstarter campaign that I had shared with my mothers’ group friends when I first started. Immediately after I shared the link in our Facebook group chat, one mother left the group. I started to doubt myself and didn’t want to promote or try and grow my business thereafter. I overcame this through the help of connecting with some very inspiring local businesses who encouraged me through their posts to get back into social media. I realised that having a positive network of people around you will do wonders when trying to grow an online presence.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

There are many pros of running your own business. I love connecting with so many women and love hearing that my innovation has helped them navigate through their breastfeeding journeys. I have also used my business to help educate my children on how to make money. If I stay afloat during this pandemic, this business could eventually support mine and my husband’s income.

In terms of cons, it costs a lot of money. My business is 100% self-funded and it has/can add financial stress to my marriage. Also, my product is not for everyone. It is not a typical nursing pillow and I have learnt that 50% of women who use a pillow do not want to hold their baby. Feeding Friend is not designed to support the baby – it is only ARM support for the caregiver who is cradling a baby.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

My product won a 2016 Family Choice Award, and I have been nominated for an ‘Ausmumpreneur Award for Product Innovation’. It is also available online at Target USA, Macy’s and soon to be Buy Buy Baby. We launched in the UAE in 2018 and in Singapore at the beginning of 2020.

From here, I wish to introduce my product into more international markets so that Feeding Friend can be available for all parents. I am passionate about spreading the message that all mothers deserve to feed their baby in comfort and with confidence – anytime, anywhere – especially in public

I am hoping to connect with an investor to expand my brand so that eventually I will have more time with my family.
