Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
Some days, we balance things beautifully. Other days… less so. The balance comes from remembering why we started: for our kids and those small moments of connection.
I recently moved to Bandigon full-time so one of us can grow the business and keep afternoons flexible – for pickups, reading together, cooking (mess included), crafts, park time, watering the plants and plotting our next story together. We involve the boys when we can: choosing characters and giving us ideas and feedback. It keeps us grounded and reminds us that work and family can feed each other.

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Starting a business while raising young kids is pretty much a juggling act – there are late nights, unknowns and lots of hats to wear (writing, illustration direction, marketing, e-commerce, printing logistics, customer care). We learned to jump into things we didn’t know how to do, celebrate small wins, ask for help and keep moving in steady steps. Each challenge sharpened the vision: make great, personal stories that can be cherished and treasured forever.
For better or worse: Pros and cons of running your own business?
The best bit: hearing a parent say, “My kid is obsessed, they keep asking for their book”, or being tagged in a photo where a child is grinning at their page. That never gets old.
The hard bit: it’s a bit scary to start a business, quit a steady income and constantly wonder if you’re doing the right thing. But right now, effort feels meaningful.

Hopes and dreams: What’s next?
We’re expanding our collection (more adventures for different ages), refining personalisation options and exploring multilingual editions so families can read in the language they speak at home. Although our children were born in Australia, Camilo and I are from South America, so for us, that cultural connection is important.
At the heart of it all is our guiding principle: connection over clutter. More giggles, more imagination, more moments that matter.
