Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
It was more difficult when the kids were little. I would produce the items when they were sleeping during the day and when they went to bed at night. Now they are older, it’s a lot easier, as they are off doing their own thing. Also, at school, my daughter is following in my footsteps and creating her own clothes.
The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
My biggest challenge has been getting my name out there and selling the clothing. It has definitely taken a number of years as it doesn’t happen overnight.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
One of the pros was during lockdown last year. As I run my business online, it was easy to produce the warm winter clothing the parents needed while the shops were closed for 6 weeks. I was run off my feet and producing items constantly, every day for those 6 weeks.
The cons are being able to afford the layout of the fabric, keeping a constant supply and not knowing whether they will sell.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
My plan is to keep growing my clientele, increasing my number of followers on my Facebook page, and continuing to supply Kiwi kids with warm, snuggly clothing.
