Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
I never want to make motherhood sound so easy, as being a mum is the hardest job ever. I never want to make any mum feel incompetent or unaccomplished or anything less-than. I have endured many, many struggles myself and still do. It’s like when you’re on Instagram, and you see that mum who posts a photo of herself in a bikini with an iron board stomach with the caption’ 2 weeks postpartum’. It’s unrealistic, and you can’t help but feel like shit!
However, when I thought about it – these points did help me out it in many ways and allowed me to focus on the business while still taking care of my family.
- Routine
- Time Management – what part of the business can wait until everyone is asleep
- Prioritisation with housework and business
- Communication with your family – Sharing your stresses and struggles, how your feeling/ ask for opinions and suggestions/ask for help
- Chores Allocated
- Plan Ahead
- Meal Preps / Grocery shopping in Advance
- Balance
- Quality Time with your family
- Breathe
- ‘Me’ Time
The Drive: What challenges have you overcome?
I am not as insecure as I once was. I am so much more confident now. I always felt like I was less-than. Keeping in mind, I am dealing with multi-million dollar corporations, I always felt like I was just that ‘mum’. The truth is, I am that mum, a mum who has a fantastic product that can help families in tough and stressful times. We can do and be anything we want and still take care of our families. We do run the world after all.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
It is very challenging, stressful and at times overwhelming; the business is on your mind 24/7. The housework never ends, and you never stop working, but through it all, I do enjoy the mental stimulation. I feel like I have another purpose, to see how far I have come and to hear all the positive feedback from mums about Soothe Me Baby is so extremely rewarding!
Hopes and dreams: What next?
