Hypnobirthing: Supporting the Holistic Journey into Motherhood

Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?

It is certainly a juggling act with a toddler and business. Our family is my priority, and my husband and I work together to ensure I can continue to support my breastfeeding journey while I am working. He brings bub to me during breaks – sometimes during more relaxed parts of the class too – so I can feed him. I often attend my admin while breastfeeding during the night. It’s a lot of multitasking and being efficient with the time I have. During the day when I have my child, I try to be as screen free as possible, giving him my time free from distractions. Due to my partners work hours, Mondays are actually our weekend so we enjoy the start of the week as a family.

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

It was really difficult starting out during Covid as many people were struggling and not able to access independent childbirth education financially. My client base is largely referral based through word of mouth, so as face-to-face gatherings have resumed, I have found more and more clients finding me locally.

I actually resigned from my full-time job to pursue my business. It’s a huge jump to put so much of your own money into building a business without the security of a regular income to fall back on. I always come back to just putting 100% into my work knowing that it makes a difference.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

I love the freedom of having my own business when it comes to my parenting style. There is no way I could have considered going back to full-time shift work while maintaining the way I choose to parent. It is challenging though doing both at the same time. There is no downtime when you run a business at home. I wouldn’t have it any other way though. I get to do what I love on my own terms. I set my hours, I choose where I work, and I get to work with amazing likeminded people. All while being able to support my family.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

I am so excited to continue expanding Mother Moon. Currently, I am releasing my new interactive Online Course so I can reach more people, effectively worldwide. I’ve gotten to work with women in Italy, New Zealand, Canada and around Australia. It’s incredible!

This year, I will also be endorsed as a private midwife, so I look forward to offering antenatal and postnatal care to women, as well as collaborating with some fantastic providers to support the holistic journey into motherhood. I would love to eventually have our own centre offering women an entire range of services from massage, acupuncture, naturopathy, hypnobirthing, midwifery care, and women’s physiotherapy. So watch this space for that!
