Sarah Bertram and husband Johan Kachelhoffer really enjoy making things for their two young sons. This has led them to design and create custom kids’ furniture that is fun, functional and kid-approved. At Charlie’s Choice, the husband-wife team use their passion and creativity to work with their clients to produce imaginative pieces that are made to last.
The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?
We really wanted to do something we both enjoy and be able to work together as a husband and wife team on projects that allow us have an outlet for all those ideas going through our heads
The launch: How did you start out in the beginning?
We started out simply by making fun stuff for our two boys.
The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?
When Covid-19 hit, we put up our first post on the amazing then-called New Zealand Made Products Facebook page when it launched. We awoke the next morning to 2000 hits and were just wowed!!
Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
Balancing work and family is the trickiest part for us, especially as we are in the early stages of our business, so are not big enough yet to outsource. This means it is currently all on us, however we always make sure we do at least one special thing on each day of the weekend with the boys, whether it be heading to the skate park, ice-creams at the beach or heading to our family bach for the weekend.
