The Drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Challenges have been questions around my products; there are a lot of people that find it hard to accept that natural ingredients still do the job and can push me on finding out how each ingredient works. Then there is working out how to run a business when I never have before! I am not technically minded or business-minded, so it has been a task and a half to set up the website, work out invoicing etc. But it’s been fun at the same time.
Another challenge is not to get too far ahead of myself. I always have these ideas on the next product that I can make, I want to bring it all together in one place for people, but I have to remind myself that I am only one person and need to slow it down sometimes. There is always an idea floating around though!
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
Pros – I can be at home with my babies whenever I need to be. I am available to my family, and that is the most important.
I have access to the greatest all-natural cleaning products whenever I want!!
I can be as naturally me as I want, it’s my business so who else would I want to be? I’m not putting on a face for someone else’s products, this is me, and I am real.
I have met the most amazing people through my customers and even made some friends.
Cons – going through all sorts of issues trying to find the right fit for my business with my products. Testing and failing, testing and failing, tweaking recipes. It can be very time consuming, costly and exhausting.
What next?
I would love to open a store! One day I hope I can. I won’t ever put my products in a supermarket, I want to keep the costs as low as I can for customers, and that means by having me sell them myself. I genuinely believe that being available to my customers as much as I can be and being as transparent as possible that together we can succeed in replacing the nasty chemical-laden products out there.
