Inspired By Nature: Support For Pregnancy, Birth, Baby and Beyond

Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?

Although my two children are grown-up (and both getting married this year), I continue to follow my passion as a midwife while growing the business.

It’s often hard to gain a good work-life balance, because as well as running the business I’m also a part-time shift worker and have a menagerie of animals to care for. There is nothing that I find more relaxing than to walk around my garden harvesting homegrown crops of fruit, vegetables, herbs and spices, with the known peace of mind that they were grown completely naturally. I’m a firm believer in doing what makes you happy and Natures Touch allows me to combine two of my passions.

Do what makes you smile – it’s infectious.

The Drive: What challenges have you overcome?

Having no business background has been an enormous challenge and the last 12 months have been a huge learning curve for me. From marketing and social media to running my own business, everyday I’m learning something new.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

The “pros” are definitely the feedback I get from my customers. When I hear that a mum has used one of my products and that it was “her life-saver” during her postnatal recovery, gives me the biggest smile and affirmation.  After all, my customers are the reason why I do what I do.

The “cons” are finding the balance. When I get an order late at night I always have the urge to get in my car and personally deliver it, because I think the mother might need the product now, rather than waiting a couple of days for the courier to deliver. Every conscious and sometimes unconscious moment is filled with something to do with the business: planning, preparing, promotion or production, but I wouldn’t want it any other way. Do what makes you smile – it’s infectious.

Hopes and Dreams: What next?

I’m busy planning for the Auckland Baby Show in August and promoting the products in various midwifery clinics, hypnobirth and childbirth education classes. With this I’m aiming to showcase my natural range of products to parents that will support their birth journey.
