Lifestyle Family Photography: Capture Your Now, For Always

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

Covid has been a real curveball for my wedding photography business – you can spend years building up a business, just to have to learn that it was vulnerable in ways you didn’t foresee, and that’s life, you just need to learn from it and move on.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

I love the ability to choose to do what I love, what gets me going, to change focus and pitch something new into the marketplace – like where family photography is dominated by this more posed, traditional model. I love throwing the idea out there that there is a different, awesome way to do it and it will create this whole legacy of fun, unposed, authentic memories that will keep you connected with this time in your life, laughing all the way into your retirement home lazyboys.

I also love the control I have over my schedule, particularly the freedom to be there for my kids – sure you work your butt off for next to nothing in some seasons, but you still get the final say about what that looks like, and in other seasons, there’s momentum and hard work pays off.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

More shooting, more getting to hang with awesome New Zealand families for the day, seeing different families do their thing and getting to capture these incredibly precious and fleeting chapters in families’ lives for always.
