Love Me True: Photography to Help You Recognise Your Unique Beauty

The Drive: What challenges have you overcome?

The biggest challenge I face is myself. My limiting beliefs stopped me for a long time and sometimes still want to derail me or cause me to stop. To overcome this I have surrounded myself with other women who are on the same path of empowering women to love themselves so I can get a reality check and reconnect to my why. Then it’s a simple as taking a action towards my goal to get me back on track.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

The pros for me outweigh the cons for me – I get to work with women to empower them to love who they are. I meet new and interesting people all the time. I get to work a career I love and am passionate about. A bonus can also be the flexibility that comes with being self-employed, which allows me to have a life I’m excited about.

The cons can sometimes be the flip side of the pros – I find working alone can be distracting and lonely. I constantly need to network, market and sell otherwise because no one else is doing that for me. Which means it can be exhausting if I’m not careful with my time.

There are three key observations for me that keep me grounded:

1 – Remembering business is a journey, not a destination. It’s about the time in between and in reality there is no end destination as it will continue to grow and change. Guess it’s a good thing I enjoy adventure and travel.

2 – Life is a roller coaster, same can be said about business. There will be ups, downs and all manner of things coming at you, so you may as well buckle in and enjoy the ride.

3 – Lastly (and this keeps me in check when I don’t think I am not getting anywhere), a mentor of mine once said business is a marathon not a sprint. It’s all about endurance and the long game.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

My big dream/goal is to travel the world while photographing and empowering women to love who they are. Another dream of mine is to grow Love Me True to be more than just photography. I have plans for a lingerie line, clothing label, empowerment coaching and to create a network of women who can empower each other every day.

For now though, tackle New Zealand. There are so many women in our own country who struggle with who they are and how they look. I want to start a movement where we take back our power, unique femininity (however that looks for the individual) and celebrate ourselves.
