Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
Our approach is to be as flexible as possible and do as much as we can together. A safe, play area with bean bags, books and more is a permanent fixture at the Nature’s Sway factory, so when normal work pressures require us to be there, the kids can be there too. And then at home, an office integrated into our family living space in a non invasive way, allows us to be at home when the kids need us there.
The Drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Having our designs copied by competitors, especially when they are using inferior materials. We have overcome this by focusing more on our strengths and points of difference. Being made proudly here in New Zealand, using only the finest quality natural materials, like Certified Organic Hemp and Cotton fabrics, New Zealand wool and locally sourced timber and beeswax. And when it comes to the hardware: high quality, marine-grade stainless steel, so even the harshest of climates won’t compromise the strength of the components, or the safety of a precious baby.
For better or for worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
The pros include being your own boss. Personal autonomy is a big one for us, and we like the idea of being the ones who are responsible for the decisions that could mean our success or failure. There are no cons!
Hopes and dreams: What next?
In the future we intend to expand our product range and become carbon neutral.
