The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
One of the biggest challenges we have overcome to date is to keep our fashion manufacturing in Australia. While it seems a very simple proposition, the reality is with so many brands choosing to outsource their production overseas, Australia has lost many skills and ateliers.
For a sustainable brand like ours, it is key to keep production runs to their smallest possible size. Indeed, we are making just enough breastfeeding tops as our customers need We don’t make more so to not create any wastage. However, this puts pressure on the manufacturing process, and with little local ateliers left, they tend to prefer larger production runs.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
The main pro to being your own boss is the flexibility in choosing your own hours and own work location. However, running your own business can also be anxiety inducing. Looking up from your emails and walking away from the business to spend quality time with your family takes constant effort.
We walk on a tight rope to maintain this fragile work/personal life balance. To help us achieve it, we delegate as much as possible and try to set up achievable goals.
