“I learnt that Manuka honey can be effective in treating many skin ailments but is particularly good at easing symptoms of nappy rash,” Helen says. “It’s also good at preventing gum diseases like gingivitis by slowing the buildup of plaque on teeth.”
With credentials like these, it was no surprise that Manuka Honey ended up as the hero ingredient in the QueenBee Pure range, which includes soap, balm, shampoo and body wash, skin lotion and toothpaste.
Many other soothing natural oils, including aloe vera, apricot, avocado, chamomile, lavender, jojoba, rosehip, shea butter, sweet almond and wheat germ, also feature in the range, which is available online and in selected New World supermarkets.
The ingredients that are left out, though, are the most important ones, Helen says.
“It was incredibly important to me that we don’t use any harmful or harsh ingredients in our products. We don’t use the big ‘nasties’, like artificial colours and fragrances, ethylenediamine tetraacetic acids (EDTAs), GMO Ingredients, microbeads, octinoxate, oxybenzone, parabens, petrochemicals sodium lauryl sulfates (SLS).”
QueenBee Pure products are also ‘beegan’-friendly. “None of our products are tested on animals. The bee by-products and goat’s milk we use are sourced from ethical beekeepers and farmers.”
Keeping it real and keeping local are high on Helen’s list when it comes to running QueenBee Pure.
“We are a family business that is proud to support local growers and producers. All our products are made humanely and sustainably.”
