The drive: what challenges have you overcome?

Like most businesses, COVID has had an impact. We have had challenges with shipping timeframes and costs. My commitment to my customers is to not have to increase my pricing. I have had to look at alternative ways to get items here which means using sea freight. Currently there are 3 month delays. Working with seasonal colours and styles 6 months ahead for sampling can be challenging. It is hard to get your head in the game for winter crews when you are just starting summer and wearing singlets.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

The flexibility is great. Being able to work from home and not have a “boss” to answer to is amazing. Being available for when my children need me is important for our family. There is a flip side where you are always thinking and talking about the business at home. Often dinner conversations become business meetings. There are definitely challenges with “clocking off” or taking “leave” as being a product-based business, someone needs to pack the orders. It all just needs a bit of planning to make sure things can always keep operating.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

We want to continue to grow the business to the point where my hubby can work full time on the business too. Once upon a time, Esther & Albie offered non breastfeeding clothing. I would like to look into this again one day soon for those mums who have finished their breastfeeding journey yet love the brand. I would also love to expand and diversify the collection and possibly look into wholesaling. I am working on big goals for 2022/2023 so watch this space…

Head to the Esther & Albie website to shop their gorgeous breastfeeding clothing range. You can also follow them on Facebook and Instagram.
