The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Learning how to be everything my business needs: a designer, maker, photographer, screen printer, content creator (okay I’m still working on that one) along with a few other rolls – this has been one of the biggest challenges I’ve had to overcome. I’ve always been someone that has strived for perfection even though I am aware it doesn’t actually exist, and slowly but surely with taking on so many roles, I am learning even if it did exist, perfection isn’t required, but giving it a good go absolutely is.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
I think if you asked Siri, she would say “business ownership requires sacrifice, determination, and resilience” and you know what, she’d be right in saying that. It’s true that being every part of your business is really hard work at times, and it’s especially hard when you’ve got a lot going on in your own personal life, but I can say having my own business and caring for my children without someone else’s restrictions is truly the most freeing and empowering feeling, and even if the pros don’t always come out on top, it’s one dream I wouldn’t give up on in a hurry.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
That’s a good question. Before the end of the year, I want to release a whole new range of products. The range was originally being designed out of necessity – a necessity to overcome the huge increase in shipping costs – but along the way, it’s morphed into a whole variety of potential solutions for mum. It’s even ended up having a sustainable twist, and speaking of sustainable, next year (or maybe sooner), I will be releasing another pillow that has a strong focus on nature. I’m really excited about both releases, but as you can imagine, there is a lot going on behind the scenes right now. As I said at the start though, it’s all about dreaming big!
