Craving a new outlet, and with the love and support of her family, Robyn Mason discovered macrame. What started out as a hobby soon blossomed into a flourishing business, where she now creates gorgeous, handcrafted pieces and beautifully curated gift boxes – full of warmth, personality and heart. Balancing home life and health challenges with a love of creativity, she’s proof that it’s never too late to turn your passion into something truly special. Here she talks to The Natural Parent Magazine about the inspiration behind Knot Flowers Co, the challenges she has overcome along the way, the pros and cons of running her own business, and her hopes and dreams for the future.
The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?
As a stay-at-home wife and mother, I decided to turn my passion for macrame into a small business.
The launch: How did you start out in the beginning?
I started my business in 2020. Knowing how much I loved macrame, I knew that’s what I wanted to do.
I love creating practical and fun items. I am always learning and creating new patterns to an art that was hugely popular in the 60s and 70s during the hippie movement.
The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?
Turning a hobby into a business can be tricky. I took it very slow and developed my brand and reputation through Facebook. Building a website has been a huge achievement and has made my business more professional.
Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?
My three sons are now adults so I spend the time my husband is at work doing macrame. I hate housework so never let it get in the way of craft.
