Katy Jane, the amazing and inspiring artist behind BrambleFaire, tells a story through her artwork, often combining botanic and anatomical aspects to her creations. She is a strong supporter of the Backbone Collective and, through her participation in the No Shame No Silence exhibition and petition, was inspired to highlight social issues involving domestic violence. She continues to find this a healing part of her artistic process, being able to share stories in a visual way that exposes the truth to situations and gives strength back to survivors.
The passion: What inspired you to set up your business?
Like a lot of stay at home mums, I wanted to contribute more to our family without giving up the special time with the kids. Also, it’s so nice to have something adult to focus on for yourself between all the feeds and nappies and being so needed by everyone.
The launch: How did you start out in the beginning?
I started out slowly, doing more branding and marketing but really enjoyed getting time for my creative side, so slowly started pushing towards the arts.
The innovation: What was the biggest breakthrough for you with your business?
The support of other working mums. One of my biggest hands up was doing some branding for an amazing working mum. Not only did she support me with regular work, but emotional and mental support as well. That community is really important, to surround yourself with people who relate to the rush.
