Empowering the Collective of Women through Fashion & Compassion

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

I’d say nearly all of them! Small business management, pattern designing, sourcing products, manufacturing delays, learning a totally new world in the fashion industry, a global pandemic to name a few, I’m sure the universe has a few more in store for me! The biggest challenge for me has been learning social media and marketing. I didn’t even have an active Facebook account till I started the business, so not tech savvy nor inclined! I must admit though, Instagram has always been my jam personally, however even that platform is evolving into moving pictures and reels. I find it challenging to put myself out there in front of the camera but have come to realise it’s important to build a connection with my customers. Social media has also been a very supportive platform too, in the context of connecting and talking to other mums doing the small business mum juggle. It’s great to know that I have that support and them in me – it’s what MBW is all about: women supporting women.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

Being able to shape your future is a big one. If something is working in your business/life, you can choose to keep going with it or even expand on that. Same goes on the flip side when things in the business aren’t going so well. We get to choose the direction. It may not always be easy but it’s worth it so far.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

We will build on expanding our clothing range in the next year to include four new designs and sourcing some great brands that tick all the boxes online. I have so many ideas to build on, however the limited business hours at night make it difficult. We will grow and move forward as we are supposed to, and I’m forever grateful to those that resonate with my designs and MummaBear Western. Looking into the future, MummaBear Western wants to go big. I see us selling Australia wide and in relevant stores in every state. We also aim to be providing support through grass roots groups and small organisations to assist in funding, to get women to social and networking events for that all-important down time and connection.

Visit the MummaBear Western website to find out more. You can also join their supportive communities on Facebook and Instagram, and follow them on TikTok.
