Empowering Women Through Pregnancy, Birth & Beyond

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

I think we can all agree that since the Covid pandemic, it has been a difficult time for everyone, affecting businesses, families, relationships, support networks and everything alike. For me, having a premature baby during a pandemic in a new country (I am Australian, and we moved to NZ two months before my son was born) where I did not have a support network was excruciatingly difficult. Together with the support of my husband, I have overcome a very dark and difficult time and it has only made me more passionate about this business and helping families to achieve a positive birth experience. My own personal experiences planted the seed to start my business – Beginning with Birth – to provide postpartum care and support to families in the very near future.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

Pro: Before becoming a mother, I worked as a Registered Nurse and as an Advanced Care Paramedic in Queensland. Now I am my own boss so I can make my business work around my family, which is extremely important to me. I want to be a stay-at-home mum and I want to be a successful business owner, so I feel very lucky to be in this position. I can do the work that I am truly passionate about. I want to make a positive impact on the world, and though the care of mothers, babies and birth partners, I can achieve this.

Cons: There is a lot to navigate and learn about setting up a new business, it takes time. Finding the patience to allow my business to grow organically and allowing myself to grow as a business owner has been something I am embracing.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

The future of Beginning with Birth is looking big, bright, and FULL! I am so excited to be working towards starting a not-for-profit organisation providing support to mothers, babies and families postpartum. Watch this space!
