The drive: What challenges have you overcome?
Currently, we are in a worldwide pandemic and we still decided to start up our own business! Our family got COVID-19 unfortunately, before my new staff member was starting, so I had to close the shop, which was heartbreaking for a new business. Luckily, people could still order online, and I spent that time improving our online presence and upskilling.
For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?
It is a huge passion of mine and I absolutely LOVE going to work. It doesn’t feel like a job because we love every bit of it, from unwrapping cute baby products, to meeting our lovely customers. The best part was when a lady came in and told me she had JUST found out she was pregnant that morning. She cried, I cried and it was very exciting.
Running a business is extremely hard work and takes up a lot of time. There are so many hats you wear such as HR/ Accountant/Sales Person/IT. Other established businesses can hire a team of people to look after that one area, but when you are new and starting out, it is all up to yourself so time management is key.
Hopes and dreams: What next?
Our dream is to expand our range even more and have dedicated sections for PREM babies (our tiniest little toes) and our “For Mum” range with perineal products. We would also love to expand and grow, bringing the shop into other areas in New Zealand as we know that sometimes it is easier to see and feel things before buying.
