Mum’s the Word: Your Raw, Funny & Candid Insight into Parenthood

Yin and Yang: How do you balance work and family?

Author is my moonlight job, I’m actually a Highly Specialist Speech Therapist and work at a med tech company. My jobs are intense and often mean that I have to juggle many many plates. I’m really fortunate because Danny is brilliant and often takes the slack, and somehow, it works. But it’s tough. I actually think I need the balance though. I struggled when I was just on maternity leave; I think the pace was too slow and I hated being home all the time. But then of course, the mum guilt creeps in. I guess we can never win.

The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

Being an independently published author is really tough. I’m slowly growing my social media account, which feels like a full-time job in itself. When nobody knows who you are, nobody is going to buy your book. I’m hopeful now that enough copies are out there that people will start recommending it to their friends, but it’s a really slow and exhausting process when you go it alone. The writing was the easy part!

Hopes and dreams: What next?

I’ve got two. The first is that every person who attends a baby shower thinks of this book as a gift. That’s when I’ll know I’ve done my job. The second is for new mums to share their stories with me so I can create Mum’s the Word: the collective. It’ll be just like the first two books, but written by YOU. I can’t wait to hear their stories.
