The drive: What challenges have you overcome?

One of the biggest challenges has been learning to wear every hat in the business – designer, marketer, customer service, operations manager – often all in the same day. In the early days, I had to teach myself e-commerce from scratch, navigate technical issues and figure out supply chains and logistics, all while caring for young children.

There were moments of doubt, especially when things didn’t go as planned – delayed shipments, technical glitches or designs that didn’t resonate the way I’d hoped. As a solo founder, those setbacks can feel isolating, and it’s easy to question whether you’re on the right path.

But the biggest challenge – and the one I’m most proud of overcoming – was learning to trust myself. Trusting my vision for the brand, my instincts about what women need and my ability to build something meaningful even when the journey felt uncertain.

Every challenge taught me resilience, adaptability and the importance of staying connected to my why. Those obstacles didn’t just shape the business – they shaped me as an entrepreneur and reminded me that growth happens in the struggle.

For better or worse: What are the pros and cons of running your own business?

The Pros:

The freedom to create something that’s truly mine is incredible. I get to design pieces I’m passionate about, build a brand that reflects my values and connect with women who resonate with that vision. There’s nothing quite like seeing a customer feel confident and empowered in something I created – that makes every challenge worth it.

I also love the flexibility. Yes, I work during nap times and late nights, but I’m there for school drop-offs, bedtime stories and the everyday moments that matter. Running my own business means I can shape my work around my family, not the other way around.

The Cons:

The flip side of freedom is responsibility – everything rests on my shoulders. There’s no clocking off, no separation between work and life and the pressure to keep everything moving can be overwhelming. Financial uncertainty, especially in the early days, is real and stressful.

Loneliness is another challenge. As a solo founder, there are days when I crave a team to brainstorm with or someone to share the wins and losses. It’s easy to feel isolated when you’re making every decision on your own.

The Reality:

Running your own business is messy, demanding and unpredictable, but it’s also deeply fulfilling. The pros and cons are two sides of the same coin, and I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything.

Hopes and dreams: What next?

My biggest dream for Pixie & Sherbet is to continue growing it into a brand that truly resonates with women around the world – a go-to for activewear and swimwear that makes them feel confident, empowered and celebrated.

In the near term, I’m focused on expanding the collections with more bold prints and versatile pieces, building a stronger community through storytelling and connection, and refining the customer experience at every touchpoint. I want every woman who discovers Pixie & Sherbet to feel seen and supported.

Longer term, I’d love to expand into kids’ and men’s styles – bringing that same playful, luxe aesthetic to the whole family. I’m also excited about exploring collaborations with like-minded brands and creators, expanding into new markets, and potentially building a team so I can scale the vision while staying true to the brand’s heart. Creating more sustainable practices and giving back to causes that support women and families is also close to my heart.

But at the core, my hope is simple: to keep creating pieces that bring joy, confidence and a sense of identity to women – and eventually families – in every season of life. Pixie & Sherbet started as a personal journey, and I want it to continue being a brand that feels personal, empowering and real for everyone who wears it.
